Job Description
The Industrial Civil Engineer is responsible for the technical supervision and execution of civil works within live industrial plants (refineries, petrochemical complexes) or new construction sites. The role involves managing subcontractors, ensuring the structural integrity of heavy equipment foundations, and maintaining strict adherence to safety (HSE) and quality standards unique to the Oil & Gas sector in Saudi Arabia.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Supervision & Execution
- Heavy Foundations: Supervise the construction of specialized reinforced concrete foundations for heavy static and rotating equipment (turbines, compressors, storage tanks).
- Steel Structures: Oversee the erection of steel pipe racks, shelters, and industrial warehouses.
- Brownfield Works: Manage civil maintenance and upgrades within “live” operating plants (Brownfield), requiring careful coordination to avoid disrupting plant operations.
- Permit to Work (PTW): STRICT adherence to the Permit to Work system, ensuring all civil activities (excavation, concrete pouring) are authorized and safe.
2. Technical & Quality Control
- Drawing Review: Review AFC (Approved for Construction) drawings, shop drawings, and bar bending schedules to ensure accuracy before execution.
- Quality Assurance: Coordinate with QC Inspectors to arrange inspections for soil compaction, concrete slump tests, and curing processes according to ASTM/ACI standards.
- Material Estimation: Prepare Material Take-Offs (MTO) for concrete, steel reinforcement, and structural steel to ensure timely procurement.
3. Coordination & Reporting
- Interdisciplinary Coordination: Work closely with Mechanical and Piping teams to ensure foundations are ready for equipment installation (checking anchor bolt locations and elevations).
- Subcontractor Management: Monitor the daily progress and manpower deployment of civil subcontractors.
- Progress Reporting: Submit daily and weekly progress reports to the Project Manager, highlighting any delays or technical clashes.
Requirements
Education & Certification
- Degree: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Licensure: Must be registered with the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE). (Mandatory for work permit/Iqama renewal in KSA).
Experience
- Years: 5–8 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Sector Focus: Minimum 3 years in Industrial/Oil & Gas projects (e.g., Aramco, SABIC, or similar environments). Experience with “Brownfield” projects is highly preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Project (or Primavera P6 basics).
- Strong knowledge of international standards (ACI, AISC, ASTM).
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards (e.g., OSHA, Aramco CSM).
Soft Skills
- Ability to work in harsh weather conditions (heat/humidity).
- Strong command of English (Technical writing and verbal). Arabic is a plus.
